Flowers Of Romance

Things I will miss about Miami

  • The sun
  • The sea
  • North Point
  • South Point
  • The Mustard Seed AA Group
  • Stray cat and the other stray cats
  • Richard
  • The crazy launderette
  • Ice Box German Chocolate Cake
Richard told me to leave my clothes here since I only brought summer clothes and I won't be needing them in London till June and I intend to return in April.

Drying Out

I decided that I should keep busy to fend off a bout of depression. I thought I would do some housework even though its not Friday and Richard isn't coming till Tuesday. I took a bag of coloured clothes to Grand Peasant Central (aka the local laundromat). This did nothing to alleviate  the hatred I felt for the world. Most people in there are Cuban men, although I have no evidence to support this and I do not have much of a work ethic myself, I am strongly of the impression that these skanks babbling on cell phones in the laundry are married to women who work a hell of a lot harder than they do. I was trying out this new laundry product that my friend gave me samples of. It might be secret so I better not say too much more.

I Hear The Click Clack Of Your Feet On The Floor

I have a Stray Cat here in Miami. I may have 2 actually, one has a damaged ear and the other ones ears are perfect. I think of them as one and the same creature. I brought along a box of Go Cat from England which they are loving. South Beach is full of stray cats actually, very beautiful ones, Persians, Siamese and all sorts of regular tabbies and blacks. The climate supports them, they do not appear to suffer, plenty of people feed them, they know how to work the system. Even the homeless people around here seem to be better off than their UK counterparts. Not to minimise the broader issues of homelessness of course but I see little groups of vagrant people siting around a laptop plugged into the wiring of a lamppost on Lincoln it looks decided less miserable than the same experience back home.

Breakfast

Pineapple and Cantelope. I am eating mostly fruit and a couple of rice cakes each day. It's quite a good detox as these kind of fruits are good for digestion (enzymes dontcha know). I doubt anyone who drinks as much coffee  & diet coke as I do drops below Sellafield in terms of toxicity in real terms.

Morning Coffee

I couldn't eat this morning. I just had coffee in Ballans with Richard. I have this stuff called half & half in coffee here. Its half cream and half milk, they have it Starbucks and all the coffee shops. I love it. I drink my coffee slightly differently when I travel. At home I make an Italian stove top pot of expresso, which is two mugs full and drink both. Then I drink at least one triple shot soy latte either on the way to work if I have to go in or at lunch time. In Spain I drink cafe cortado which is expresso with hot milk, its weird because hot milk is one of my least favourite things but in Spain it seems palatable.

Finally more than 4 hours sleep

After talking to Richard and reading our books to each other until 2 am I finally managed to sleep for about 5 or 6 hours. Richard gave me a herbal sleep enhancer (not a mogadon - I am not counting days again) and a pillow spray containing Petit Grain, Grapefruit and Rosewater from The Soho Hotel in Covent Garden.

Maybe it was the talking, the herbs or the smell of luxury which is always such a comfort that did the trick. I also ate chips last night with Richard at Shake Shack, Northern English women are always better after a few fries.

Not sure but I feel good.

Turning cartwheels across the floor

Most Americans who have teeth and thanks to the lack of public health care here there are many who don't, have excellent white teeth. British teeth by contrast are somewhat yellow and wonky in comparison to the Hollywood smiles I see over here. Expensive dental treatments aside, US toothpaste is just totally superior to anything you can buy in the UK.

But I like it

I am drinking strong coffee and listening to Exile On Main Street. I have given up so many vices I am going to have to take up some new ones or re engage with some old ones. Of all the things I have given up coffee has never been one of them.
